# fixed means checkable

**What “fixed” means**

“Fixed” means a computer could check it: at any moment there is a clear list of rules and a mechanical way to tell whether a proof follows them. It does not mean the rules never change. A system that keeps changing is a sequence of fixed systems, each with its own blind spot.
